Post 8: English Language Challenges

I enjoyed learning English at university, especially when I compared my experience at school. I felt that at school I learnt very simple things, today I still think so when compared to what I have learnt at university. I think that maybe the English they taught at my school was very basic because my school was not one of the best. During my career, I have only had two english courses, so this course was the first time I actually experienced the use of blogs as a type of homework. In the previous course the homework was just presentations and conversations between classmates (I think this was also due to the fact that there was no pandemic yet).

I quite liked the dynamics of the blogs, although sometimes it was difficult to comply with the requirement to make comments to classmates because I used to do my homework inmediately and I did not chance to my classmates to do their homeworks, so I couldn't make comments and had to wait all day for them to finish their homework. I also enjoyed the blogs because they helped me to get to know my classmates a little better, where I realised that we often shared the same tastes and thoughts, I would like to see them at the FAU one day.

I should probably improve my pronunciation, as when I read an listen to english I can understand it perfectly, but every time I try to speak in english I feel embarrased and this feel affects to my pronunciation. I'm trying to practice more with friends to improve that pronunciation problem, so we started to try to speak english three times a week for at least an hour, also because we have the ambition to move to Canada or New Zealand one day.

Post 7: Changes to my Study Programme

As you may have noticed in my previous posts, I study architecture and since I started with the electives for the specialisation I have thought that there is a need for several subjects for the specialisation I am interested in: history, theory and criticism.

I would probably reduce the workload that the workshop course has on the students, it has many hours a week and it also demand a lot of work outside class hours, I think that level of demand is inhuman, none of my classmates has been able to sleep well any semester.

In general, the rest of the subjects I think have been necessary, having gone through the whole line of mathematics, physics and calculus has been essential to be able to carry out some more difficult projects, the history subjects have made me very happy because I like reading, researching and theorising about some subjects.

Other things I would change would be the infrastructure of the FAU, it urgently needs a refurbishment, including computers in better conditions and with more availability, change in the wood of the structure and also more rooms, we are more and more students and the faculty can't cope.

I like the way some professors teach, you can tell it's what they like to do most, they do it with passion and they manage to transmit emotions to the students, however, there are still bad professors who enjoy failing other students and clearly that should change.

Post 6: Time travel to the Future

If I really had the opportunity to be able to travel to wherever I wanted and at the time I wanted, I would probably choose a distant country with good life expectations, I don't have much hope for the future that awaits Chile, especially seeing the presidential candidates we have and that once again we have to vote for the "lesser evil". As for where I would travel to, it would be to New Zealand, because it has a high quality of life in terms of education and health system, I could live my life peacefully in a place like that, plus I have a couple of relative who have managed to develop their lives there.

I would like all this to happen in 2030, a not so distant future in which I hope to have at least some basic aspects of my life covered, everything has been going well so probably the Eliana of the future could have everything under control, travelling to 2030 and already being in New Zealand would be wonderful, I would definitely even stay in that future, as long as I could have the company of the people I care about in that future. The only way I wouldn't stay in that future is if I see that there is no one by my side.

Post 5: My Future Job

Ever since I was in high school I wanted to be a teacher, although it was never clear to me what subject I wanted to be a teacher of. When I started studying architecture at university and met my teachers I realised what I wanted to be, a teacher of architectural history and theory. I think it would be great to able to show those who are just entering the career how beautiful architecture is from thought, I would like to teach them to love the career despite its complexity.

I think being a teacher could be from home, however, I like the idea of being able to go on "school trips" (or university trips in this case), meet the students and talk to them face to face. I don't think I would like to travel a lot for my job, I would like to travel to nearby places with my students, but not out of town trips or very long trips, as these tend to be very tiring and increase the responsability one has to have.

I think that the salary is the least important thing, at least in my case, I have a secured house where I don't have to pay to maintain it, I only have to pay the monthly expenses of water, electricity and internet. I would like to have enough money to be able to eat well, I don't need millions, just good food and nice clothes.

At the moment I am finishing my last courses in history and theory, but I would like to do a major in history and theory as well, I think that with the courses I am doing it is not enough to be a good teacher for my future students.

Post 4: My Bucket List

Every year at the end of the year I usually make something similar to a Bucket List, as everyone does for the New Year, with impossible wishes that never come true. Since last year I have started making these lists with more realistic goals. One of the things I would like to include in my list is to start a business venture with my boyfriend, we are still not sure whether to start working together in technology or start working together on my drawings, as he currently works fixing computers and I have done a couple of drawings for some clients, we have also thought about starting to experiment with epoxy resin but the weather is not good yet to start.

I think some of the hardest things on my Bucket List is to start learning how to design in 3D, the hardest thing is to bring my illustrations in 3D as I haven't found courses to learn, creating in 3D is something I've never done and the time is not enough for everything I want to do either.

Maybe it's because I have a boyfriend, but most of my Bucket List activities of this year includes him and luckily we've been able to accomplish several activities on my list, like travelling out of town together, meet your couple's friends and more. Definitely all the activities I have on my Bucket List I want to share with my couple.

Post 3: My favorite Movie

I have a problem with choosing a favourite film, I have many favourite films, but if I had to recommend one it would definitely be Tarzan (1999 film), it's one of my favourites of the franchise. One of the things that makes it my choice is the soundtrack, Phil Collins is one of my favourite singers and his songs give a lot of emotion to all the scenes in the film. Another of my favourite parts of the movie is the delicate and romantic atmosphere that Tarzan and Jane have when they both present their way of life to each other. In general the type of movies I like the most are the "children's" movies, specifically all Disney and Pixar movies, I love the colours they use to highlight their characters, the character design is always unique and wonderful, plus the songs add a magic to the movie.
I think the last film I saw was also from Disney, "Luca" an adventure where the main character starts to experience human life together with two friends, from this he develops an adaptation to this life and will do his best to be able to continue living with humans. I would definitely recommend it, it has everything: action, laughter, friendship, emotion. In fact, any film or short film that comes from Disney Pixar is highly recommended by me.

Post 2: The best concert ever

I remember my first and best concert of all in my life, was in 2015 at Movistar Arena, during thosse years I was a big fan of kpop and the concert was of my favorite band: BTS or Bulletproof Boy Scouts, the name signifies the group's desire to block out stereotypes, criticisms and expectations that aim on adolescents like bullets. The concert was just wonderful, before it started my best friend and I made a few friends, we danced together and we play at guessing what are the names of the songs that were playing in our cellphones. Then inside the stadium everything was excitement, the place had a beautiful light show and the dance of our favorite band was amazing. I felt so much emotion, I let myself be carried away by the euphoria of the others, I screamed a lot for nothing and I was excited for every little thing that happened, I felt really happy to be able to be enjoying all those emotions with my best friend. It is a pity that years later they became so famous, the tickets to their concerts became very expensive for me and I could'nt see them again, so that's why I will never forget that first best concert.
