Post 8: English Language Challenges

I enjoyed learning English at university, especially when I compared my experience at school. I felt that at school I learnt very simple things, today I still think so when compared to what I have learnt at university. I think that maybe the English they taught at my school was very basic because my school was not one of the best. During my career, I have only had two english courses, so this course was the first time I actually experienced the use of blogs as a type of homework. In the previous course the homework was just presentations and conversations between classmates (I think this was also due to the fact that there was no pandemic yet).

I quite liked the dynamics of the blogs, although sometimes it was difficult to comply with the requirement to make comments to classmates because I used to do my homework inmediately and I did not chance to my classmates to do their homeworks, so I couldn't make comments and had to wait all day for them to finish their homework. I also enjoyed the blogs because they helped me to get to know my classmates a little better, where I realised that we often shared the same tastes and thoughts, I would like to see them at the FAU one day.

I should probably improve my pronunciation, as when I read an listen to english I can understand it perfectly, but every time I try to speak in english I feel embarrased and this feel affects to my pronunciation. I'm trying to practice more with friends to improve that pronunciation problem, so we started to try to speak english three times a week for at least an hour, also because we have the ambition to move to Canada or New Zealand one day.

Post 7: Changes to my Study Programme

As you may have noticed in my previous posts, I study architecture and since I started with the electives for the specialisation I have thought that there is a need for several subjects for the specialisation I am interested in: history, theory and criticism.

I would probably reduce the workload that the workshop course has on the students, it has many hours a week and it also demand a lot of work outside class hours, I think that level of demand is inhuman, none of my classmates has been able to sleep well any semester.

In general, the rest of the subjects I think have been necessary, having gone through the whole line of mathematics, physics and calculus has been essential to be able to carry out some more difficult projects, the history subjects have made me very happy because I like reading, researching and theorising about some subjects.

Other things I would change would be the infrastructure of the FAU, it urgently needs a refurbishment, including computers in better conditions and with more availability, change in the wood of the structure and also more rooms, we are more and more students and the faculty can't cope.

I like the way some professors teach, you can tell it's what they like to do most, they do it with passion and they manage to transmit emotions to the students, however, there are still bad professors who enjoy failing other students and clearly that should change.

Post 6: Time travel to the Future

If I really had the opportunity to be able to travel to wherever I wanted and at the time I wanted, I would probably choose a distant country with good life expectations, I don't have much hope for the future that awaits Chile, especially seeing the presidential candidates we have and that once again we have to vote for the "lesser evil". As for where I would travel to, it would be to New Zealand, because it has a high quality of life in terms of education and health system, I could live my life peacefully in a place like that, plus I have a couple of relative who have managed to develop their lives there.

I would like all this to happen in 2030, a not so distant future in which I hope to have at least some basic aspects of my life covered, everything has been going well so probably the Eliana of the future could have everything under control, travelling to 2030 and already being in New Zealand would be wonderful, I would definitely even stay in that future, as long as I could have the company of the people I care about in that future. The only way I wouldn't stay in that future is if I see that there is no one by my side.
